Gnakpa’s backing underdogs Luton to roar back into Football League

HATTERS can thrive in the role of underdogs in Sunday’s play-off final against York City according to Wembley winner Claude Gnakpa, writes Mark Wood.

The popular ex-Hatters star will be at the famous stadium to cheer his old club on on Sunday, and he’s hoping that history will repeat itself after he netted the winner three years ago as Town stunned Scunthorpe 3-2 in extra-time in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.

Luton were underdogs that day too and the flying Frenchman said: “They are not favourites, not in my eyes, which could be a good thing.

“Because in the past they (York) were difficult to play against.

“At the moment they are in good form, probably thanks to the new manager.

“Hopefully the fact they are not favourites will help the team to go and win this final.”
