By George! Brabin is full of praise for his skipper

HATTERS boss Gary Brabin praised the character of skipper George Pilkington for earning his side all three points against struggling Alfreton Town at Kenilworth this afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

With 39 minutes on the clock, winger Robbie Willmott was adjudged to have been fouled by keeper Dan Lowson, a former Town trialist, and Pilkington made light of Luton’s recent penalty problems by blasting home his first goal of the season from the spot.

Brabin said: “I thought we were very nervous in the first half an hour, very nervous.

“It took a bit of character from George Pilkington to step up and give us the lead with that penalty.

“It was a very nervous performance from us, but we’re delighted to get three points, we’ve just got to learn from it and move on from here.”

Alfreton boss Nicky Law pulled no punches when it came to his thoughts on the spotkick awarded to Luton, as he said: “I don’t think there’s anything between the two teams, one’s up in the play-offs spot and one’s struggling to stay in the league.

“I think the difference between the two teams is the referee, it’s never been a penalty.”
