Fuccillo returns to Hatters

HATTERS have announced that Lil Fuccillo has joined the club as technical director.

The former Town player and manager, made over 150 appearances between 1974-83, has also agreed to become an associate on the board.

Fuccillo, 55, who was born in Bedford, has most recently been chief scout at Swansea City, while he also held down the same role at Newcastle United.

He has also worked for Hull City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Charlton Athletic, before agreeing to return to Kenilworth Road.

Fuccillo said: “I loved my days here as a player but I can honestly say I certainly don’t want to be manager and I don’t think the typical role of director of football works.

“I’m here because I was born in Bedfordshire, the club have been fantastic to me in the past, and in return I know I can put the experience I have gained over the last 10-15 years to excellent use here at a strategic level.

“I’m Luton through and through and I’ve been given the chance to come in and be part of the future by helping the board. I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to providing all the support I can to help us regain rightful League status.”

Hatters chief executive Gary Sweet added: “I’ve known Lil for some time, as have a number of board members, and have always enjoyed his company.

“Lil is a proper football man with a real passion for our club - he’s one of us - and I know he’ll play a vital role in providing some real football expertise at board level which we’ve never been able to integrate as a permanent function before.”
