French full-back faces uphill battle to secure deal

Hatters: French full-back Thierry Audel faces an uphill battle to gain a contract at Kenilworth Road according to boss Paul Buckle, writes Mark Wood.

Poor weather conditions have meant that chances have been limited for the 25-year-old, who has previously played for Auxerre reserves, Slovenian side MNK Izola and Italian Serie B outfit Triestina Calcio.

On Audel, who has also trialed at Portsmouth, boss Paul Buckle said: “It’s been so hard because of conditions the training and games being called off.

“Nothing yet, but the boy’s up against it. We’ve got some really good players at the club.

“I have to say that in trying to improve the squad it’s not easy because we’ve got some really good players.

“Yes it’s not a massive squad, yes I feel players will have to move on in January.

“Whether this lad can come in and be better than what we’ve got is a big ask for him.

“At the moment I’m not sure, but at the same time I feel we’ve got enough development players.

“I think he’s at an age where if you’re going to bring him in he will have to come in and really push.

“He’s not really had an awful amount of opportunity to impress me, because like I say everything’s been a bit messy at the moment.”
