Fleetwood wants to fire Hatters to Wembley

A FIRST-EVER visit to Wembley is the carrot inspiring Stuart Fleetwood to help fire the Hatters to victory over York City today.

Town’s top scorer is hoping to fire the goals that will help the Hatters overcome their 1-0 first leg deficit and book them a return to the home of England football.

Fleetwood has been in fine form in this season’s FA Trophy for the Hatters and has scored 11 goals in all competitions since joining from League Two Hereford United earlier in the season.

He said :”I’ve never played there so I’m desperate to get to a Wembley final.

“I know a lot of the lads haven’t played there either.

“Silverware is silverware and playing at Wembley, as a footballer, it’s everybody’s dream.”

Fleetwood fired the equaliser for 10-man Town at Darlington on Tuesday night and he hopes that set the Hatters up nicely for the visit of the Minstermen.

He continued: “It showed everybody the character that some people thought we’d been lacking in the last few weeks.

“We were really upbeat after the game even though we dropped two points.”

And he’s hoping that an early goal will put York under pressure after Town were forced to play 40 minutes with just nine men in the first leg that Fleetwood missed through injury.

He added: “It’s important to try to get an early goal. I don’t think they’ll fancy coming here if we keep 11 men on the pitch.”
