The 27-year-old, who scored 27 goals in 88 appearances during his 18 months at Kenilworth Road, wasn’t offered a new contract by Town boss John Still.

Speaking about the decision, Fleetwood said: “I was disappointed, but I don’t think I was too surprised.

“I was ready for that to come, the way the new manager came in, then me picking up the injuries as well.”

Fleetwood did appreciate the honesty in which Still delivered the news though and belives Town are in for another summer of change as he added: “I think he knows the players he wants to bring in.

“It’s probably not going to be as attractive as it has been in the past, but with four seasons in the Conference, it’s maybe the change that’s needed.”
