Fleet victory can help Hatters have no regrets come play-off time

FOCUSING on tonight’s game against Ebbsfleet could help the Hatters realise their dream of promotion at the end of the season, writes Mark Wood.

Chief Paul Buckle has urged his players to keep giving him everything they’ve got so they have no regrets come the end of the season.

Speaking yesterday, he said: “When the final whistle goes at the end of this season I want to be able to sit here and say that I’ve given it every last bit I’ve got to get in the play-offs this season.

“And the players at the moment are sharing that with the staff and myself and that’s got to continue.

“We’ve got to go all out as a football club to get in those play-offs now.

“Because we know if we can get in there we’ve got a fantastic chance, as good a chance as anybody.

“It’s about thinking about tomorrow night, our focus is on tomorrow night and nothing else.”

On getting into the play-offs, he continued: “To be totally honest I’ve not given it any thought. All I’ve done is put my focus into today’s training this morning’s session.

“We will go back out and work on a couple of things this afternoon and then the focus will be on tomorrow night.

“Nothing else, pure and simple it’s one game now at a time and the focus has to go into that.”

Town face an extremely busy run-in with four games in the space of a week-and-a-half defining their season.

But Buckle is unconcerned by the schedule, saying: “There’s no such thing as over-training. There’s no such thing. These players are fit and strong and they’re hungry for success.

“There’s an opportunity for success. They’re enjoying the training there’s a good atmosphere around the club and it’s important we take that good vibe into tomorrow night.

“We spoke this morning about doing a double session, it’s not the end of the world doing a double session today.

“We’ve got plenty in the locker and the players look very fresh and so they should do.

“The rewards are massive if we can pull it off and win these games and that’s what we’ve got to focus on.

“I’m only interested in this squad, what we can do.

“I’m interested in trying to get our supporters on the front foot tomorrow night and get them with us as soon as possible.

“And the only way we do that is by working really hard on the training field and taking that into the game.

“It’s very simple for me. We’ve just got to focus on this afternoon’s session, tomorrow night and then after that it will take shape.

“It will take shape, everybody is running out of games now, there’s no time to waste. There’s no time to recover, we’ve got to get to it and mean business now.”

Despite having only been in the job a week and a half, Buckle is thoroughly enjoying life at Kenilworth Road.

He added: “I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I had a nice weekend, I really looked forward to coming into training this morning and I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow night.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with the players and staff, it’s been fantastic and I’m delighted to be here.”
