Fitzsimons eyes up central defensive slot with Town

New Town signing Danny Fitzsimons is eying up the vacant central defensive berth at Kenilworth Road this season, writes Mike Simmonds.

So far, Town only have Steve McNulty who is assured of a starting role, with Lathaniel Rowe-Turner on the transfer list and Wayne Thomas released.

Alex Lacey is the only other recognised centre half, and Fitzsimons, who manager John Still admitted has been brought in to put pressure on left back Scott Griffiths, said: “I’m not fussed really, I’ll play anywhere, as long as I’m in the side. I’d say I was consistent and a strong tackler, just an overall defender.

“I’m really competitive and clean sheets are all that matters.”

Fitzsimons joins Town after a superb personal season with Histon where he dominated the end of season honours.

He added: “I won five awards overall, managers’ player, players’ player, fans player, a couple of others too.”
