Familiar faces are making Benson feel right at home

He said: “The more people you know the easier it is to settle because you know what their game is, you know their personalities, you know what you can say to them, you know what you can’t say to them.

“The more people you know the better. So I’ve obviously got Solly (Taiwo) and Scotty (Griffiths) from Dagenham and then Smudger, Jonathan Smith from Swindon, I played with him there.

“I know Gutts (Luke Guttridge) and Ronnie (Henry) through playing anyway, so there’s a real good group of players that I’ve already come into contact with either playing or playing against.

“It’s made it really easy to blend in and even the guys that I didn’t know anyway have all been really good with me, friendly.

And Benson believes old boss John Still undersold the quality of Town’s squad when convincing him to join.

He added: “They’ve made it really easy for me. A fantastic bunch of boys.

“The gaffer told me they were good boys and I think he underestimated it, I think this is a great team with a great set of boys.

“I’m really pleased I’ve made the switch, it’s started well today and hopefully we can build on that and go on.”
