Now U’s boss Richard Money signed Barnes-Home while in charge at Luton for £50,000 from Kidderminster Harriers, where he had scored 35 goals in 100 appearances, and he went on to score 23 goals in 81 appearances for the Hatters.

He left for Swedish side Ostersunds FK before joining to Macclesfield Town, where he scored 21 goals in all competitions, and then FGR where he scored five times in 18 games.

The U’s have an option for a further 12 months for the 27-year-old, and director of Football Jez George said: “Matthew has shown huge desire to join us and has put his football ambitions ahead of financial considerations.

“The opportunity to work again with Richard (Money) was a key factor as well as the club’s position in the league and our aims for the remainder of the season.

“It is very difficult to sign proven goalscorers like Matthew in January without spending huge amounts of money, so we are absolutely delighted with this deal.”
