Ex-boss Buckle declined to be drawn on ‘Norwood bid’

Town boss Paul Buckle refused to be drawn on reports that Luton had had an offer rejected for Forest Green Striker James Norwood last month, writes Mark Wood.

Former Rovers’ website reported they “dismissed an offer from fellow Blue Square Bet Premier side Luton Town last month” as they announced he had signed a new contract until the end 2014-15 season.

On the 22-year-old, who is on double figures for the season, Buckle said: “I’ve got nothing to say on that one. I wouldn’t want to talk about a player that’s at another club, I wouldn’t do that.”

Norwood, who has scored 14 goals in 34 games in all competitions this season and has also been named FGR man of the match seven times, also reportedly had League One sides Swindon, Preston and Doncaster tracking his form during the January transfer window.

FGR boss David Hockaday added: “We’ve been talking to James for many months and we are delighted he’s put pen to paper and is contracted for another two and a half years.

“James loves it here at Forest Green and always has. It fits him well and as in any good relationship, we’re good for him and he’s good for us – plus the fans love him.

“The challenge now is for him to keep on scoring goals and help us gain promotion.

“We have a young talented group of players that are all committed to the future of Forest Green Rovers.”
