Essam extends loan deal at Luton

Hatters have extended the loan of defender Connor Essam from League Two leaders Gillingham for a further month, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 20-year-old has appeared six times since his arrival at Kenilworth Road last month and has broken into the starting line-up for the last two matches.

His loan is due to expire on October 28, but Essam will not be allowed to play in the FA Cup as Town are due to enter at the fourth qualifying round stage on October 20.

Speaking about Essam’s impact since arriving, Town boss Paul Buckle said: “He’s a great age, he’s very aggressive, he wants to head the ball, wants to defend and they’re the qualities I want in a centre half.”
