Essam aiming to break into Luton side

On-loan defender Connor Essam hasn’t come to Luton to make up the numbers during his month at Kenilworth Road, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 20-year-old deadline day signing has joined on loan primarily as cover with Garry Richards facing a lengthy spell out of action, while Janos Kovacs and Alex Lacey have both been injured recently, and Ronnie Henry suspended.

After playing 18 times last season, but not featuring in the Gills opening matches, the defender had been looking to move from Priestfield in search of football, but the timing of the transfer did come somewhat out of the blue.

The Sheerness-born defender is now the third player to move to Kenilworth Road from Gillingham and he is hoping he has better luck than both Richards and Danny Spiller who have been sidelined with injury since joining, for however long he is a Luton player.
