Dorchester tie the ideal scouting exercise for Hatters

Hatters goalkeeper Mark Tyler believes that Saturday’s FA Trophy clash with Dorchester Town will be an ideal scouting exercise ahead of the FA Cup second round tie the following week, writes Mike Simmonds.

A quirk of fate has see Town visit the Blue Square Bet South side in the first round of the Trophy this weekend, before hosting their opponents at Kenilworth Road.

The Magpies are currently 10th in their division and knocked out Didcot Town to earn the tie with Hatters.

They are on a decent run of form too, with four wins from their last five games as Tyler said: “We’ll get a good look at them in the Trophy, give them the respect they deserve and everyone who comes to Kenilworth Road will have their gameplan.

“It’s up to us to break them down.”

Defender Simon Ainge, who joined on loan from Guiseley, has good memories of the competition, having reached the last eight with his former club last season, before coming unstuck against Hatters, losing 1-0 to a Matthew Barnes-Homer strike.

He is backing current Hatters forward Andre Gray to repeat his goalscoring form if selected at the weekend, adding: “Andre’s doing really well at the minute.

“I’ve played against him as a lone striker quite a lot and he always caused us problems. So playing with the service he’ll get from our midfield and alongside (Scott) Rendell, he’s going to score goals.”
