Day to forget for McNulty as Town are forced to wait

What should have been a triumphant afternoon on Saturday turned into a day to forget for Town defender Steve McNulty.

The script had been written for Luton to claim the victory they needed to win the Skrill Premier title and regain a place in the Football League.

But opponents Braintree clearly weren’t on the same page, as they shocked the 10,020 crowd by winning 3-2 to delay Hatters’ moment of celebration.

McNulty said: “It was a day to forget. We all thought we were coming here for the same reason, but Braintree have come and upset the party.

“The cameras have turned up and no disrespect to Braintree, we expect to get the job done, but it didn’t happen.”

Although the BT Sport TV cameras were in attendance, fully expecting to broadcast Town’s trophy presentation, plus the biggest crowd of the season, McNulty didn’t think the extra pressure was to blame, as he pointed to a host of defensive errors.
