Davis looks to earn new Vale deal after Hatters spell

Defender Joe Davis is hoping his fine form while on loan at Luton will help earn him a new deal with parent club Port Vale.

The 20-year-old made an immediate return to the Valiants side for their 2-0 League One defeat at Brentford on Saturday, after playing nine times for Luton.

Now in the final year of his contract, Davis told the Stoke Sentinel: “Luton was good, I enjoyed it. But I am back here now and enjoying it.

“I love being here and this is who I want to play for. I am hoping to cement my place and get myself going again.

“I want to play as many games as I can, play well and try to get a new deal.”

The centre half felt his game certainly improved while at Hatters, as Luton only conceded three times during his nine games.

Davis continued: “It’s just a run of games. It’s something you need to build confidence and build form. I feel I have come back better and stronger.

“Micky Adams (Port Vale boss) has been brilliant with me. He realised that I needed to go out and play.

“I was getting a bit frustrated maybe sitting around a bit, he has put me back in and I am hoping to do it for him and the players as well and pay him back.”

Meanwhile, Vale boss Adams thought Davis performed well in his first Valiants appearance since April.

He added: “Joe has played in a side that is used to winning games of football, so that will have upset him a little bit because he is used to keeping clean sheets at Luton.

“We tried our best to fill the gaps and I think the two young centre-halves can feel proud of what they have done.”
