The powerful 20-year-old central midfielder marked his return to Kenilworth Road with an all-action performance in Saturday’s 7-0 humbling of Hereford United after recently joining the club permanently from West Ham United.

Mpanzu, who had shone while on loan with the Hatters earlier in the season, said: “It was a great goal, great interplay with Gutts (Luke Guttridge) and Benno (Paul Benson) and thankfully he laid it off and I put it into the top corner. People say it looked like it was going over, but I knew it was going to go in so it was good.

“I know the team are capable of moves like that so I trust the players to put the ball where I need to go and vice versa so I won the penalty and (Jake) Howellsy took it and Paul and Gutts supplied me for my goal, so it was great.”

The youngster proceeded to celebrate his goal in style with a dance.
