Dance out for season while Amari is touch and go

HATTERS midfielder James Dance has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 24-year-old, who signed from Crawley in the summer and has played 28 times scoring four goals, hasn’t featured since the 1-0 win over Stockport on January 10.

Dance recently underwent surgery on his ankle and assistant boss Alan Neilson confirmed his absence at this morning’s press conference.

He said: “James Dance has had an operation on his ankle. He’s won’t play again this season now.”

The news on joint leading scorer Amari Morgan-Smith was not much better, with Neilson unsure whether the 22-year-old, who has been suffering with a persistent hamstring injury, will be in action again.

He said: “It’s touch and go (whether he will play this season).

“A hamstring can be just three or four weeks, but his has been a long one and we’re looking at all the avenues of getting him totally fit.

“He’s been getting better and then had a few little setbacks with his hamstring, so he is on road to recovery again, but we haven’t put a date on when he’ll be back.”

Morgan-Smith’s absence has been keenly felt this year as despite playing just 19 times, he has netted 10 goals, the same as Stuart Fleetwood.

Neilson added: “It’s dogged him this season. He’s trained and we thought he was nearly there, but then he pulled up again, so fingers crossed he can work hard and get right.

“He’s seen a specialist and has gone down all those routes with the physios.

“It’s very disappointing for the coaching staff, manager and player himself. We’ve seen over the season how he can affect games, hold the ball up well and he’s a goalscorer.”
