Cullen urges Hatters to take their chances

Learning to take their chances was the only real blot on Town’s copybook according to new striker Mark Cullen as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Boreham Wood on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

The former Hull City could only side-foot a great opportunity at James Russell when one-on-one with the keeper in the first half, before turning JJ O’Donnell’s cross-shot on to the bar from point blank range.

Cullen said: “I would have liked to have scored but it’s the first game and I’m still getting my feel back and hopefully by the time the first game of the season comes we’ll be putting chances like that away.

“There’s a few chances the lads have had throughout the whole game and that was one of the things that was said afterwards, that we’ve got to score, you can’t win if you don’t score.

“That’s one of the things to work on but it’s still early doors in pre-season, first game, so we go again on Tuesday.”

The 30C heat and sunshine proved particularly testing on the day for the platinum blond striker as he once again had to get the sun cream out after a week’s training in Portugal.
