Crow agrees Newport switch

FORMER Town striker Danny Crow has signed for Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Newport County on a one-year deal, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 26-year-old forward, who scored 17 goals in 70 games for Luton, including two against Newport last season, turned down interest from a host of other Conference.

County boss Justin Edinburgh, who also recently snapped up another former Town forward in Ryan Charles, said: “I’m thrilled. Danny is a great age and has a lot to offer.

“We’ve beaten off a lot of other clubs to secure his signature and he will be a great addition to our forward line.

“It’s no secret that we were missing a goalscorer in our squad last season and Danny has got that in him.

“With him, Jefferson Louis, Ryan Charles and Jake Harris we have got options up front now.

“He never really had a good run in the team at Luton but he is a quality striker, he’s proved that wherever he’s been.

“He scored two goals against us last season and they were real poacher’s goals. That is something we’ve lacked since I’ve been at the club and I’m excited to get the chance to work with Danny.”

Crow admitted there had been interest in him from clubs in the Football League, but a permanent offer from Newport had been more enticing.

He said: “I had teams in the league above offer me trials, but at this level you can’t be doing that.

“I’ve done it (scored goal) at this level and want to play somewhere where I can play a part consistently.”

Since Crow has left Luton, boss Paul Buckle has swooped for Ronnie Henry and Danny Spiller as the forward added: “Ronnie Henry has got a lot of experience in this league has played in a very organised Stevenage team and looks a good signing.”
