Carney stays at Luton as Premier League Norwich refuse to stump up fee

PROMISING young defender Newman Carney is back with the Hatters after clubs refused to match their interest with their cash, writes Mark Wood.

The 17-year-old impressed in the FA Trophy for Luton last term at both left-back and centre-half and the uncertainty surrounding Town’s youth set-up in the summer saw him try his luck elsewhere.

Carney went on a two-week work experience placement to Norwich City, but they weren’t prepared to meet Town’s valuation of the youngster.

Managing director Gary Sweet said: “He is fully back. It was important that any player that wants to explore his future elsewhere is given the opportunity. We are happy with what we did and the decision.”
