Carden expecting tough Quakers test

HATTERS first team coach Paul Carden believes opponents Darlington will be a tough nut to crack under manager Mark Cooper this afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Quakers are sixth in the table and are looking to mount a serious promotion push this season to regain their place in the Football League, the same way Luton are.

Carden said: “We know they’re always going to be a tough side, even when they came down with all the problems that they had on the pitch.

“They’re a club that will always attract a decent calibre of player. With Mark Cooper in charge now he’ll have them organised as he always has done with this teams, wherever he has been.

“He had a bad spell at Peterborough, but they obviously thought a lot of him to put him in charge in the first place.

“It will be a tough game, but one in which we’ll go out as we always go out, to try and win every game we play.

“We’re confident we can go out and get the points. We’re not taking them lightly or underestimating them in any way.

“We’ve had them watched a few times, hopefully we’ve done our homework and hopefully we can turn a couple of negative draws into a positive good home victory against a well fancied side in our division.”

Hatters have drawn their last two matches with Hayes & Yeading and Stockport County after letting leads slip, and Carden admits that although undefeated, the management have been slightly disappointed with a return of 10 points from their opening six games.

He added: “Everyone connected with the club, be it fans, be it management, be it people who working in the club’s offices. We’re all disappointed that we haven’t taken more points from the games, but at the same time, we are unbeaten, and we’ve got to capitalise on not losing any games.

“But we have to turn draws we’re getting into three points, because if we want to mount a real serious challenge this season, we need to do that.

“It’s not like we’re not trying to do it. I think everyone can see this season, we’re going to win games. We’re not setting out to get a draw anywhere and we certainly won’t do that.

“Every place we’ll go to, we’ll go to win the game. It’s just unfortunate that little mistakes are costing us. We just hope they’re all out the way now and hopefully we can push on and turn an unbeaten run into a run that we’re winning back to back games, that’s what needed, back to back victories.”
