Buckle singles out Taylor for criticism after Barrow defeat

Town manager Paul Buckle blasted full back Greg Taylor after Luton went down to a 1-0 defeat at Barrow yesterday afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

The recently recalled defender saw his back header fall short of goalkeeper Mark Tyler on four minutes, allowing Adam Boyes to nip in and lob home what proved to be the winning goal.

A clearly frustrated Buckle said: “It was a carbon copy of our season in terms of individual error.

“Taylor’s mistake was dreadful and we’re a goal behind.

“I’ve given Greg Taylor a chance. I wasn’t happy with his defending earlier in the season. I let him out on loan, brought him back in and you saw with that, we can’t afford for any weakness in our back four because the ball’s been ending up in the back of our net.

“That was poor. It should have been cleared, headed away, we can’t deal with it, and we’re 1-0 down.

“The goal was so poor and pathetic, that’s angered me more than anything

“It’s individual error and slowly and surely I’ve got to keep changing it until we get it right.”

Although Town have 85 minutes left to try and get back into the game, home keeper Danny Hurst enjoyed a far quieter time than at Kenilworth Road last month, when he was beaten six times.

Buckle added: “We gave them something to hold on to and in the end they held on to it.

“We threw everything at them. They made blocks and we couldn’t get the equaliser.

“I feel sorry for the forwards as they’ve always got to score two goals.

“I said to the the players we might as well go out with a 1-0 mentality to the bad, because at least we’ve got a chance to recover.

“We put some good balls in second half, but we just couldn’t break them down. They got in some excellent blocks on shots that looked like they were going to go in, but in professional football you can’t gift goals, if you do that its going to be a tough day.”
