Buckle pays tribute to his brave Hatters

HATTERS boss Paul Buckle felt he and his side earned their just rewards as they took a major step towards reaching Wembley last night, writes Mike Simmonds.

Town were 2-0 winners over Wrexham in their Blue Square Bet Premier play-off semi-final first leg at Kenilworth Road thanks to first half goals from strike duo Andre Gray and Stuart Fleetwood.

Hatters were dominant for large parts of the match, as Wrexham were a shadow of the side who had finished 17 points above Town and won both league encounters between the teams this season.

Buckle said: “The one thing I said to myself before I addressed the players is that I’m not going to leave anything in the office.

“I want to step forward, I don’t want to come out of these play-offs thinking if only. I want to go for it and we got our rewards for being brave.

“You never know what you’re going to need in the play-offs, they’re tricky affairs. One thing about Luton was we weren’t cagey, we didn’t sit back. We took the ball by the horns and got our rewards.

“I felt it was some game. For a play-off where it’s supposed to be edgy, we opened the pitch up, and the boys did us proud.

“I asked for an improvement after Kidderminster, which I thought was going to be difficult, I asked for an improvement on Fleetwood, which I thought was going to be difficult and the boys have done it again. It was a pleasure to watch.”
