Buckle hopeful over Thomas’ international clearance

Town boss Paul Buckle is hopeful that new signing Wayne Thomas will receive international clearance in time for Tuesday night’s trip to Dartford, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 33-year-old signed on Monday from Greek side Veroia, but wasn’t available for the 1-1 draw with Forest Green Rovers yesterday.

Buckle said: “We need everyone involved, especially as (Alex) Lawless will miss that.

“I’m hopeful that the clearance will come through although with the Greek authorities, it’s a strange one, they can hold things back and hold things up.”

The boss recalled Janos Kovacs to the starting line-up for Saturday to play alongside recent signing Steve McNulty and would have no hesitation in sticking with the new partnership.

He added: “Certainly Kovacs playing like that alongside McNulty, they (Rovers) never got through the middle of us.

“They put dangerous balls in, played a bit shorter and had some powerful strikers, but we looked solid.

“I was angry at Barrow because I felt we were little bit weak, but I didn’t see any weaknesses this time.”
