Buckle hopeful over duo ahead of Bulls clash

A few extra days rest should give Alex Lawless and Mark Tyler a real chance of featuring at Hereford United on Tuesday night, writes Mark Wood.

Neither were risked in Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw against Nuneaton Town, but Luton boss Paul Buckle is hopeful the pair will be able to feature against the Bulls at Edgar Street.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, he said: “I think days are a good thing now and an extra couple of days between now and Tuesday might give them the chance to be available.

“Lawless went close yesterday but again I don’t want to take any risks. The squad isn’t massive, but the players are giving everything.

“I think this group of players here at Luton are giving every last bit they’ve got for the cause and that’s all I can ask for as manager and I know our fans appreciate that and plus we’ve got some very skilful and attacking players as well and that’s why we’re on a very good run.”

Buckle was glad his side had managed to keep themselves in the draw for the second round of the FA Cup by netting a late equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Nuneaton.

Sunday’s draw subsequently handed the Hatters a home game against mid-table Blue Square Bet South side Dorchester, who beat League Two strugglers Plymouth Argyle 1-0, if Luton can get past Boro in their replay.

But Buckle’s focus is now firmly on tomorrow night’s trip to Hereford as he said: “At half time I said to the players get me in the hat for the second round and at the close of play they’ve done that and we turn our attention to Hereford which is a huge game for us.

“We’ve been doing very well. I think all the fans would see that, they’ve watched us over the last couple of months, the players have done brilliantly, we are on a very good run and we’re desperate to continue that on Tuesday night.”

Dan Walker stepped in for the injured Jon Shaw at the last minute in Saturday’s game and doesn’t think that Town will change their attacking mentality against the Bulls.

He added: “We go there to win. I’m sure we’ll do the same. We don’t change our tactics, we play to win every game, so I’m sure if we play how we did today but score the goals this time we will do the business there.”
