Buckle dreams of another Premier League tie

Town stunned the footballing world by knocking Norwich City out 1-0 at Carrow Road yesterday afternoon and after sampling the occasion, Buckle and his players want more.

He said: “After that experience, I would dearly love to play a Premiership club again.

“This is where everyone wants to be. This is where I’m sure all of my players want to play, the coaching staff, myself, this is what you’d love to be doing on a regular basis, so a Premiership club would be nice.”

On the game itself, Buckle felt his side were well worth their place in the fifth round as he continued: “I’m really pleased for the club. The club’s had some really bad days over the last few years, so I’m absolutely thrilled for the board and the players.

“Hopefully this will make us believe that we’ve got a really, really good squad, because both games, Wolves (in the last roud) and Norwich, there wasn’t a lot of fluke about it.

“We weren’t holding on for dear life in both games, so hopefully we can take a lot of belief from this, because this is an incredible achievement from our players.”

Meticulous preparation paid off for Luton too as they trained at Ipswich Town for two days prior to the match and executed their gameplan perfectly on the day, limiting the hosts to a handful of clear-cut chances.

Buckle said: “We took great strength from the Wolves game. Okay, they (Norwich) are in the Premiership, but we stuck to the same plan.

“It’s a lot easier to work in a structure. At our level and this is no disrespect to our level, there’s no real structure, it’s more of a fight.

“Whereas we could work this week on trying to deny them space which we did very well.

“It worked for us and we caused them problems going the other way. The players got it right and I want them to enjoy this. I don’t think its quite sunk in yet, it was an incredible performance from the players.”

Canaries boss Chris Hughton was gracious in defeat too, adding: “It was a big shock for us, but I think what you have to do is give Luton credit.

“They came here with a game plan and were reliant on a few things happening to get the result. What happened was we found it very difficult to break them down, the chances that we did have, we weren’t able to put them away.

“We pushed and pushed, they’ve caught us on a classic counter attack. It’s a poor goal for us to concede and I said at half time, as much as we want to get this result, we’ve got to make sure not to concede.

“They’re a fit side, they’re an well organised side and if you don’t create the chances that you need to, it’s going to be a difficult afternoon.”

Meanwhile, Norwich striker Grant Holt tweeted: “Fair play to Luton they worked there socks of came with a game plan and it worked. Good luck in the next round. Bounce back Wednesday.”
