Buckle delighted to get it spot on at Fleetwood

HATTERS boss Paul Buckle felt he got it spot-on tactically at the weekend as Town triumphed 2-0 at Blue Square Bet Premier champions Fleetwood to book their place in the play-offs, writes Mark Wood.

Recalling target man Craig McAllister was a major factor and Buckle said: “Tactically it was right, I felt we needed that focal point with Macca.

“I know what Macca can bring and they’ve all been training really hard. I get to see that every day and you guys don’t.”

The boss was also glad that the Hatters didn’t have to rely on results elsewhere to qualify, with Kidderminster’s clash with Mansfield, that Harriers eventually lost 3-0, not mattering after Luton cruised to victory.

Buckle added: “I didn’t want anyone doing us any favours, I made that crystal clear to the players.

“Everyone was talking about Mansfield not playing a strong side and what were Fleetwood going to do and I was sick of hearing it to be honest with you.

“The thing for me was not for anyone else to be doing us any favours and I said that to them.

“If we’ve got anything about us as a club we don’t want any favours from no-one.

“We’re Luton. We’ve come here. Let’s give them the guard of honour and give them the respect they deserve because they are the champions, but let’s go and beat them because we are capable.

“The team, when it plays like it did, are capable of beating anyone.”
