Buckle confirms interest in Jolley and Neilson

Hatters boss Paul Buckle has confirmed his interest in wing duo Christian Jolley and Scott Neilson, writes Mike Simmonds.

Jolley was linked with a move to Luton this week after impressing on loan at Newport County from AFC Wimbledon, scoring twice during the Exiles 5-2 win over Luton Town recently, when he ran the visitors defence ragged at times.

He has now returned to the Dons and is expected to leave during the January transfer window, while Neilson has been on loan at Conference title rivals Grimsby from League One Crawley Town, where has scored once in nine appearances.

Speaking to the press this morning, Buckle said: “Christian had one of the best games he’s ever played, and certainly is a name that we like, along with two or three others. So he’s available and someone that we like.

“Scott’s someone that I’ve seen over the years and affected a lot of games that I’ve watched. Again he would be someone that I like as well.”

“We’ve not got an out and out winger at the club. Andre Gray’s played out there, JJ’s (O’Donnell) done a great job on the left, (Alex) Lawless has done well on the right and that’s been more rigid and solid as we’ve not got anyone like a Neilson or Jolly in wide areas.”

Although Buckle is clearly after a winger, his attentions might not be focused purely on the flanks when the window opens in just over a week’s time, while he also admitted there might be some departures from Kenilworth Road too.

The boss, who is yet to make a decision on French trialist Thierry Audel, added: “There could be one or two other areas that we’re looking at as the halfway point in any season is a good time for looking at how the players have done and seeing what we need for the second half of the season.

“I’ve always said that if I feel that any player or players have fallen behind then you do your best to lift them and try and improve them and if you can’t, you’ve got to move on.

“So there will be one or two changes in January and hopefully maybe one or two in.”
