Buckle blasts agent as Moutaouakil joins Pompey

Disappointed Town boss Paul Buckle missed out on two potential transfer targets last week, writes Mark Wood.

Bury winger Marcus Marshall in the end re-signed on loan at Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Grimsby Town until the end of the season, while Hayes & Yeading full-back Yassin Moutaouakil was snapped up by League One strugglers Portsmouth.

The 26-year-old full-back had looked likely to sign for the Hatters after training with them, but made his Pompey debut in the 3-1 defeat against Hartlepool, leaving Buckle exasperated by his representative.

He said: “I was a little bit disappointed with the agent because I did everything right with the player.

“It might have been put across to me maybe we weren’t quick enough in signing him but that certainly wasn’t the case, because they knew all along where we were with the deal.

“If they turn around and say the boy’s going to go to a League One club I have no problem.

“But don’t stick the blame on us. We got him fit, he stayed with us, we sorted him all out ready to go somewhere else.

“That’s life sometimes, but you live and learn.”

The Shakers were reported to have accepted an offer for 23-year-old wide man Marshall, but the move foundered when the Mariners got wind of it.

Buckle though quickly moved on by signing former Southend United winger David Martin.

On whether he was disappointed by the Marshall saga, Buckle added: “No I’ve moved on from that now, not disappointed at all. I’ve got David Martin in the building, I’ve got Scott Neilson and it’s just contrary to what some people said about we’re paying silly money, we don’t pay silly money we pay fair money.

“We’ve got our house firmly in order.”
