Brill makes move after call from England legend Butcher

A phonecall from England legend Terry Butcher was enough to persuade Town keeper Dean Brill to make his first playing foray north of the border last week, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 27-year-old agreed to sign for Scottish Premier League side Inverness Caledonian Thistle on loan until January after a chat with the former Three Lions captain.

Brill said: “I spoke to John Still who said would I be interested? I said of course, put my number across.

“I received a call from Terry Butcher himself. I talked it over with him, had the weekend to discuss it with my family and went from there.

“It was quite surreal when I got the phonecall and I told, especially the older members of my family, that I just had a call from Terry Butcher.

“He did really well last year with them and is of a great calbre, so I’m really excited.”

Brill had been made available for transfer at the end of last season by Luton and confirmed moving to Inverness was an easy decision.

The destination of his move did come as quite a surprise to the keeper though, who is unsure what his future holds, with another 12 months to go on his contract at Kenilworth Road.
