Brabin pleased with second half reaction

LUTON Town boss Gary Brabin was delighted with the second half reaction from his side after they eventually overpowered Southport 5-1 this afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

A disjointed Hatters were being held 1-1 at the break after Adam Watkins fine long-range strike, before goals from Will Antwi, Amari Morgan-Smith, Robbie Willmott and Danny Crow sealed an emphatic first win of the season.

Brabins said: “The first 20-25 minutes I thought we were better than what we showed.

“We’ve gone a goal down again which I’m a bit disappointed about. They’ve (Southport) come here and are fitter and stronger than last year and I thought they made it really difficult for us.

“They had a game plan, (they) take time on the goal kicks and fetching the ball, and I think a little bit of frustration was coming out.

“At half time I told the lads what I was disappointed with. We’ve got some good players and what I’ve been praising them before is about the tempo we’ve played with and the purpose too.

“I didn’t think we did that first half and mentioned it to one or two individuals who I know are better than what they showed.

“I think I got a reaction from that group of players and one of big things I wanted last year was a reaction from players on the bench and think we got that today.”
