Brabin disappointed as Hatters fall further behind in title race

HATTERS boss Gary Brabin was left disappointed as his side dropped further behind in the title race at the weekend as they could only draw 3-3 with Southport, writes Mike Simmonds.

After trailing 2-0, Hatters roared back to lead 3-2 at Haig Avenue with goals by Danny Crow, Adam Watkins and Aaron O’Connor, but Kevin Pilkington’s unfortunate late own goal saw Town trail leaders Wrexham, who still have a game in hand, by a massive 10 points.

Brabin said: “We’re disappointed we’ve dropped two points.

“That’s a real kick in the teeth because under normal circumstances, coming here and getting a draw in the conditions wouldn’t have been a bad result.

“But when we’re playing catch up the way we are, it’s disappointing.

“The wind got even stronger second half and the goal kicks were coming straight back at us.

“We had to be patient and I thought that when we did play football, we carved them open. Right at the end, I thought Danny Crow was going to win it for us when he got clean through but it wasn’t to be.”
