Brabin court case could set precedent warns Sweet

ANY legal sanctions against ex-Town boss Gary Brabin following his sending off at York last year could set a dangerous precedent according to Luton managing director Gary Sweet, writes Mark Wood.

Brabin was found not guilty of two counts of assault, but fined £400 after being convicted of a public order offence for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour immediately prior to the incident.

He had already been red-carded and Hatters managing director Gary Sweet is determined he should appeal as it could open up a veritable Pandora’s Box for the footballing world.

He said: “We are encouraging him to appeal against the public order offence because we think it’s wrong and it could be used as a precedent in football.

“He had already received his punishment with his sending off. It could start off a number of claims, this could be the thin end of the wedge.”
