Striker Paul Benson felt Town’s hard work in training paid off with a 5-0 hammering of Alfreton on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Hatters raced into a 4-0 lead after just 18 minutes, with a truly sensational display of attacking play.

Benson said: “Everything we work on in training came together and it was a very, very, very good first half performance.

“Some of the passing, certainly for Andre’s second one, was from a level above.”

Although Hatters didn’t reach the same heights in the second period, Benson was happy there was no repeat of the Tamworth game where they almost let a 4-1 lead slip, while the forward was delighted to notch his seventh goal of the season.
