The on-loan forward bagged his fifth goal for Town in 12 games during Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup first round defeat at Welling and followed that up with another during Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Braintree.

In an honest assessment, when asked whether he was pleased with his tally prior to the midweek game, Benson said: “Not really, I’d like to have a few more.

“If someone said five goals in 11-12 games, it’s OK, it’s not great and I’ll strive to do better.”

Although Hatters went out of the FA Cup, Benson is hoping it turns out to be a case of history repeating itself as he added: “When I was at Dagenham, we got knocked out of the first rounds of the FA Cup and Trophy and got promoted out of the Conference, so it’s not the end of the world.”
