The left back was part of the same Dagenham & Redbridge side as Benson that won the Conference title back in 2006-07.

Griffiths said: “He has a lot of quality when he’s on it.

“The first year he was in the Conference with me, I think he got golden boot and we won the league.

“I’m not making any promises as it’s not my place to do so, but I think he’s a quality player. He holds the ball up well and just seems to pop up in the right positions.

“He’s a proven goalscorer.”

Midfielder Andy Parry also hailed the forward’s influence already, saying: “Its been good with Benno coming in. He’s only been in a couple of days but you can see there’s a big difference in the way the team play. He’s settled in very well,”

Boss John Still had been impressed with his new signing’s debut during the 2-0 win at Kidderminster.

He said: “He’ll get better and better. He had a little bit of adrelinane (against Kidderminster), so he might not be as good next week, but I was very pleased.”
Just on what a fully fit Benson will bring to the side, Still added: “He’s a player I know well. Everywhere he’s been he’s scored goals, so I was pleased we were able to get him.

“He’s what you might call a centre forward. He likes to play straight down the middle. He’s good with his back to goal, great on crosses when the ball’s coming in, he can lose defenders, he’s very clever.

“He wanted to come here and I think that was the clinching thing. The fact he wanted to come here as he feels we can have an exciting time, that’s a big plus.”
