Benson not feeling under any extra pressure

Despite Luton’s frailty in front of goal so far this season, new signing Paul Benson isn’t feeling any extra pressure, writes Mark Wood.

The 33-year-old target man signed on a season-long loan from League One Swindon Town last week with Luton having only scored three times in five games.

He had an immediate impact at the weekend, winning a penalty as Town looked far more effective in the final third during their 2-0 win at Kidderminster Harriers.

He said: “As a forward you are always expected to score goals, no matter who you’re playing for or how the team’s doing, whether they’re scoring or not.

“You put pressure on yourself to score goals, that what you’re in the team to do. I was disappointed not to get one, but overall I thought it was a good team performance and I’m certainly more pleased that the team got the win than me not scoring a goal.

“Obviously I want to try and score as many goals as I can, that’s the target.”

Having been frozen out at the Robins this season it had been feared Benson might not be match fit, but he last 94 minutes on the day before being replaced and was overjoyed by the result and performance.
