Beckwith: I could have left Hatters

Things could be very different for Town defender Dean Beckwith right now, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 28-year-old is enjoying something of a renaissance at Kenilworth Road, after starting the last four games for Town, but confirmed he came mightily close to leaving the club during the summer.

It didn’t look any better for Beckwith when the campaign started either as he was so out of favour, that boss Paul Buckle resorted to shuffling his full backs into central defence.

A suspension for skipper Ronnie Henry meant he had little choice but to select Beckwith for the trip to Ebsfleet and he has responded with four excellent performances,

Had summer signing Garry Richards not been injured for a lengthy period then Beckwith could have been out of the door too, but he takes no pleasure in the injuries suffered to his travelling partner.
