Banton tipped as one to watch for the future

Young Town striker Zane Banton gave further examples of his increasing repuation as he scored in Town’s 4-2 pre-season friendly at Thurrock on Monday night, writes Mike Simmonds.

The teenager replaced the injured Alex Wall on 30 minutes, and with Town trailing 2-1 at the break, showed quick feet to sweep in the equaliser after the interval, his third strike during pre-season.

Banton, a member of Hatters’ U18s squad then went on to set up the visitors’ third and fourth goals, showcasing his talents to Town’s watching backroom staff.

First team coach Hakan Hayrettin said: “Zane is someone since I’ve come to the football club, I’ve made the gaffer aware of.

“He’s one that we’ll be keeping a very close eye and I keep going back and telling the manager he’s got something.

“He wants to score, he’s hungry, and has a desire to win the the game and improve himself which is just as important.”
