All the odds as Luton host Tamworth

Let’s hope it is a case of the Lambs to the slaughter (I’d take 1-0) when Tamworth visit Kenilworth Road on Saturday, weather permitting, with the visitors desperate to maintain their Conference status currently fourth from bottom of the table, writes Charlie McCann.

The Lambs were thrashed 4-1 against an improving Grimsby in the FA Trophy last weekend and the Hatters are taken to add more woe to the Staffordshire outfit although we won’t get rich backing the hosts at ¼ with the visitors 10/1 and the draw 17/4.

Town are 11/10 to win to nil and that might be the shout given the hosts have only conceded 11 goals in 14 Conference games at home this season.

Cambridge could have gone back to the top of the table with an 11-goal win at Kidderminster last night but the fixture was postponed because of the recent rains although they are likely to try again at the weekend without the TV cameras.

Town remain 1/3 for the title with the U’s 11/4 and the latter are 11/8 joint favourites at BetVictor to win the FA Trophy with Grimsby who they meet over two legs in the semi-final.

Andre Gray is 2/1 second favourite to be leading goalscorer after Halifax’s Lee Gregory (4/6) took his lead to four with a hat-trick for the Shaymen against Salisbury midweek; note Halifax have played five games more than Town and perhaps Gray is overpriced although in this instance you would like to have the goals (like points) in the bag instead of games in hand.

A full midweek set of fixtures is also scheduled with John Still’s men on the road to Cheshire and Moss Rose Macclesfield.

The Silkmen currently sit mid-table but are unbeaten in 15 in all competitions at home since early September; this will be a huge examination of Town’s title credentials.
