All the odds as Hatters host Dartford

A poor week for Luton Town with a home FA Cup draw against lowly Nuneaton Town followed by a loss at Edgar Street against a Hereford side buoyed, not for the first time, by their own Cup exploits having beaten League One Shrewsbury at the weekend.

The Hatters remain 6/4 favourites (from 5/4) for the Conference title despite that reverse but it was a good night for both Welsh clubs with Wrexham’s 4-1 win at Southport and Newport County’s 6-2 triumph at home to Cambridge United.

Newport, as a result of the Hatters loss at Hereford, have a four-point lead from Wrexham and Luton although the former have a game in hand.

The Hatters are 4/6 to return to winning ways against Dartford 9/2 and the draw at 11/4 for the weekend game and the Kent side go into the game knowing a win will see them leapfrog Paul Buckle’s side although they, too, suffered a midweek reverse losing 1-0 at home to Forest Green having been knocked out of the FA Cup by the same side last week.

Stuart Fleetwood is 18/5 to grab the opening goal with Scott Rendell 9/2 and Andre Gray 4s; one goal against Nuneaton and Hereford is a poor return for the much-vaunted Hatters offence and Buckle, the Hatters’ faithful and I will be expecting three points at the weekend.

Luton are our 10/11 favourites for the FA Cup replay at the Triton Showers Community Arena against Boro next Tuesday and with the winners having a home tie with Dorchester Town in the second round there is sure to be a big Luton following.

I insist that promotion must be the sole objective this season although I am sure there are many in the Kenilworth Road finance department who disagree with me with the third round, arguably, within touching distance.

A cracking weekend of Premier League action and a big game at the Etihad where Roberto Mancini’s City side can’t feel sorry for themselves after their 2-2 draw against Ajax in the Champions League midweek when a couple of big decisions went against them.

Spurs are the visitors and they broke their United hoodoo at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign and, after their own shock reverse to Wigan last weekend, they too will be looking to bounce back. They are 5/1 at BetVictor to do so with City 4/7 and the draw 16/5.

Luis Suarez continues to carry Liverpool almost single-handedly and goodness knows what would happen to the Reds if his back eventually gave way! Luis Suarez and Juan Mata are the 6/1 favourites to be named man of the match with Fernando Torres and Oscar at 7s.

Torres is due a goal against his former club but it is hard to support him in his present mood and form although every now and again he bursts back into life.
