All the odds as Town travel to Cambridge

The News/Gazette BetVictor column

Who would be a Hatters fan? life is certainly a roller coaster as Ronan Keating would say and, after an appalling 3-2 home reverse to Braintree, Luton bounced back to beat lowly Nuneaton 2-0 last weekend.

It sounds a convincing win but once again Hatters’ fans were left biting their nails for 86-goalless minutes before Alex Lawless grabbed a late brace to calm the nerves.

Despite not hitting anywhere near top form so far this season Luton find themselves handily placed in third place in the table only four points behind leaders Newport County and still market leaders at 7/4 with BetVictor for title glory and only even money for promotion.

Luton have three of their next four Conference fixtures away from home and, after winning five on the road already this term, appear to relish the challenge away from Kenilworth Road.

That said trips to Forest Green and Mansfield look particularly tough encounters and if the Hatters remain in the top three as we move into the busy Xmas period they will feel extremely happy.

This Saturday is the start of the FA Cup trail and gives a break from League action; another large travelling support will make the 40-mile trip to fellow-Conference side Cambridge in an early kick off on Saturday.

United have not had the good start to the season that many were predicting and find themselves well off the title contenders down in 16th place; that leaves them ten points off even a place off berth and recently manager Jez George was moved upstairs into the role of director of football.

That move paved the way for Richard Money (aka Dickie Dosh) to be appointed as head coach and he needs no introduction to Hatters fans!

Luton will want to put one over their former gaffer but likewise Cambridge will be more than fired up for this clash which is arguably the tie of the round. Town are favourites at 5/4 with the hosts 21/10 and the draw 5/2.

Luton will hope to settle the tie in 90 minutes but promotion is the priority and it would be no surprise if Paul Buckle rotates his squad at the Abbey Stadium; that said such is the strength in depth the Hatters really ought to have enough for the win.

If you watch one sporting event this weekend do tune in to BBC racing at 4.05 from Ascot; the Beeb has turned its back on horseracing but their last televised race from the Royal track will be the mighty Frankel’s swansong in the Champions Stakes; we will never see his like again.

Good luck with your weekend betting and remember BetVictor.com is number one for football.
