All the odds as Luton host Mansfield

It is always sad to see a manager leave a Club although I can’t say I was surprised to hear of the departure of Paul Buckle midweek although the circumstances surrounding his departure remain cloudy, writes Charlie McCann.

Let’s wish him well and he was, unbelievably, installed as odds on favourite to be the next manager of Swindon Town on Wednesday morning by other bookmaking firms. There have been times this season when the Hatters have been shorter than 7/4 to win the Conference title but that is their current price to finish in the top 5 although on current form you couldn’t touch that with the proverbial bargepole.

Having taken, rightly, the plaudits for their FA Cup win at Carrow Road their 3-0 home loss to Millwall in the fifth round was put into perspective when the Lions were thrashed in their own Den by bottom-of-the-table Peterborough 5-1!

The Hatters, meanwhile, dropped two more vital points in the Conference when they let a valuable lead slip at Macclesfield with Macc playing 70 minutes with 10-men.

Yes Town had the better of the chances and the Silkmen’s equaliser was a wonder goal but the hosts didn’t have a reserve keeper on the bench and it was two more vital points lost.

Luton are out to 7/1 to be promoted at BetVictor but are 11 points out of the play-off places and that price makes little appeal.

Mansfield are the visitors to Kenilworth Road this weekend and Luton are 31/20 against a side also harbouring promotion aspirations; the Stags currently lead Luton by eight points in the table although the Hatters have a game in hand. Mansfield are 5/2 to be promoted and 8s for the title so this is another tough game for Luton Town. After Saturday the Hatters go on a mini-tour with trips to Braintree, Stockport and Nuneaton and whoever takes over at Kenilworth Road has a tough task on their hands.
