All the odds as Hatters travel to Forest Green

To say the Hatters have started the new season with a whimper would be something of an understatement, writes Charlie McCann.

There seems to be a sense of bewilderment about results as well as performance as they failed to deliver yet again last week at home to Macclesfield Town.

John Still’s men finally got their season under way when beating Salisbury at Kenilworth Road last week in unconvincing style, but a win is a win and it is better to win ugly than to lose prettily as they say!

That result was followed up with a draw at Macclesfield when salvaging a point in the 96th minute barely tells the story however as they conceded 60% possession and 22 shots on goal to a team who had previously lost to Nuneaton and Lincoln. Panic stations? Not yet.

Despite Luton and Forest Green being the big spenders in the league, it is Kidderminster who are now Conference favourites at BetVictor, despite only scraping a 1-0 win away at Braintree last week.

They are now 4/1 joint favourites with Forest Green Rovers, whilst Town are out to 5/1 with Barnet 7s, Cambridge 8s, Grimsby 9s, Wrexham 9s and 25/1 the field.

It is arguably the tie of the season thus far in The Conference Premier as The Hatters travel to The New Lawn to face a Forest Green side that displayed such promise on the opening day with a 8-0 spanking of Hyde including a hat-trick for midfielder Marcus Kelly.

They were severely flattered however by a poor Hyde team that were down to 10 men, and have been brought back down to earth with only a point away at Nuneaton and a 2-1 loss away at Lincoln last week.

Forest Green are marginal 13/10 favourites with Luton 11/5 and the draw 12/5 and without being dramatic the game could have severe bearing on the ante post markets, should either team win in comprehensive fashion.

The both teams to score bet is surely to be popular at 7/10, comparatively one or both teams not score at 23/20.

Luton have been slow into stride in their games this year and Forest Green should be able to strike early, making it extremely tough for the Hatters as the Rovers Half Time / Draw Full Time double result could be worth a small investment at the 15/1 mark.

Luke Guttridge has netted in The Hatters last two matches and is 11/2 to complete the hat-trick. It is surely a matter of time before Jon Shaw gets on the score-sheet and the centre forward is 15/2 to score first and 12/5 to score anytime.

For Luton’s sake let us hope he can break his duck for the season on Saturday.
