All the odds as Hatters take on the Sandgrounders

The News/Gazette BetVictor column

Luton quickly put their weekend nightmare at Blundell Park behind them when recovering from a half time deficit to win 2-1 at Tamworth on Tuesday evening.

Wth all the other title/promotion candidates also winning it was vital that they too landed the points to keep in touch with their rivals.

Once again manager Paul Buckle was able to utilise a strong bench to make three substitutions after the restart with Stuart Fleetwood in particular certainly helping turn the match the Hatters way.

After setting up Yaser Kasim for his first Town goal, he bagged the winner himself and could have added another when a late attempted lob went narrowly wide.

With Luton’s other forwards not able to sustain any consistency this term, Fleetwood has been the man for goals and his Conference total now stands at eight and BetVictor make him 5/1 joint favourite alongside former Hatter Aaron O’Connor, now with leaders Newport County, to win the Golden Boot award.

Luton remain 11/4 favourites for the title and whilst they do have strength in depth certainly from an attacking point of view only two clean sheets all season remains a cause for concern.

The Hatters remain 4/11 to finish in the top five and 5/4 to be promoted ahead of Saturday’s visit of Southport.

Southport boss Liam Watson has a full strength squad at his disposal for the trip to Kenilworth Road and make no mistake The Sandgrounders are not coming just to make up the numbers; they had the best of the game at leaders Newport County last weekend and although it took an own goal to salvage a point against Stockport midweek that was the least they deserved.

That said they have managed only one win on the road this term and that was at lowly Hyde while they struggle for goals with only 13 managed so far this term.

Town will be popular with punters for sure and are 9/20 to secure maximum points with the draw 14/5 and Southport 21/4.

The next four fixtures have an easier look to them and Luton need at least three wins from these to sustain a title bid before the huge visit to Forest Green at the end of October.

Rovers spent heavily during the summer and results have been superb and those punters who took the early 12/1 on offer will be happy to see odds of 9/2 now. Leaders Newport were even bigger at 20/1 and are now 7/1 with the current form team Grimsby the same price.

Newport and Grimsby meet in the game of the day at Rodney Parade where County have been very impressive at their new home with four wins from five this campaign.

The ground generates a tremendous atmosphere and Grimsby will do well to stop the Welshmen in full flow. Newport are 13/10 for victory with the draw 9/4 and the Mariners 9/5.
