Ainge welcomes potential competition at the back

More competition at centre-half would be welcomed by Simon Ainge as he longs for a return to the Football League, writes Mark Wood.

The Guiseley signing has recently lost his starting place to Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, who has formed a reliable partnership with Janos Kovacs at the back.

Town have also made no secret of the fact they want to sign an experienced and commanding centre-half in the January transfer window.

But Ainge would be happy with any additions, saying: “I’ve come to Luton because I think we deserve to be in the Football League and any quality players we are signing is better for me because I want to be playing in the Football League.

“Any players that bring a positive impact to the squad and quality to the squad I’m really happy for them.

“It’s always good to have competition. I think Snoop (Rowe-Turner) has done really well and the last few games he has been the best defender.

“Me personally I can’t have any complaints and I’m keeping myself fit for when I do get the opportunity, hopefully I can perform to the best of my ability.”

Concentration has been one of the key elements boss Paul Buckle has said he needs to improve, and Ainge added: “I think it’s just a a case of me knowing I need to be switched on. At this level if you do make mistakes you get punished for them.

“I’ve learned the hard way, we’ve conceded a few goals where I’ve lost my man but I’m working hard to put it right. There’s nothing worse than conceding a goal from a mistake which could have been prevented.

“I’m over the moon to be here. It’s a great club to be at. While I’m here I want to learn as much as I can and improve in every match and training session. I’m thankful to the gaffer for showing faith in me.”
