Ainge out to prove a point against Hatters

The 25-year-old defender was only released on Thursday and signed the very next day for Luton’s Conference rivals FC Halifax Town, scoring for the Shaymen in their 5-0 friendly win over Brighouse Town last night.

He said: “Obviously I’ve got a point to prove because the gaffer told me I wasn’t wanted.

“Even if I hadn’t played for Luton I’m sure I would be looking forward to it because it’s such a big club and I can’t wait for those games.”

Ainge only joined the Hatters on a permanent basis in the January transfer window for an undisclosed fee from Conference North Guiseley after initially being signed on loan by Paul Buckle.

The former boss had seen him as adding a commanding presence to the heart of the Hatters’ defence but Ainge struggled to get a look-in after his departure.

He featured 27 times for the Hatters, scoring twice, but played mostly at right-back under new manager John Still and wasn’t surprised that his time was up.
