Leaders keep pressure on with fifth win on bounce

SHEFFORD Town & Campton recorded their fifth win on the bounce as they beat Woburn 2-0. Adam Larsen and Adam Chambers scored in the closing ten minutes to send the Safari Boys to their fourth consecutive home defeat which leaves them in the relegation mix.

But the result of the day came at Steppingley Road where Flitwick Town threw the Premier Division title race wide open. Their 3-0 win consigned reigning champions Blunham to their first defeat in 12 outings with Jim Lewis, Peter Kowenberg and Dean Warren scoring the goals.

Second placed Wilshamstead extended their season’s unbeaten home run with a 4-1 victory over Dunton. Colin Marshall was on the scoresheet twice alongside Paul Jones and Paul Dwyer against a lone reply from James Cooper.

Still very much in the mix are Renhold United who enjoyed a 5-1 home win over Arlesey Town Reserves. Tommy Foyle (two), Alex Woolston, Paul Beattie and Anup Kaylan bagged the goals with the reply from Dan Manning. That defeat now takes Town to the bottom of the table.

Moving off that bottom spot are AFC Kempston Town thanks to the point gained in a 2-2 draw at Sharnbrook. Michael Hutton (following his midweek transfer from Blunham) plus Jamie Rodd their goal heroes against home replies via Dan Kelly and Alex Strange.

Elsewhere, Caldecote as good as said goodbye to their championship hopes for another season when beaten 3-5 at home by Oakley Sports. Mark Smith with a hat-trick plus Jamie Endersby with a brace on the mark for the winners against home replies from Nathan Buckland twice and Barry Dellar.

Beds Intermediate Cup

BEDFORD Hatters booked themselves a Carlsberg Stadium cup final tie on Wednesday, April 20 with AFC Dunstable Reserves after they emerging as 3-2 home winners over Luton District & South Beds League Stopsley Common Green. Darek Jozwiak, Scott Alleyne and Simon Pixley netted the Hatters’ goals. Elsewhere, AFC Dunstable beat Stotfold Reserves 3-1 to book their place in the final.

Division One

POTTON Wanderers are now six points clear in Division One after notching up their eighth consecutive home win on the bounce in defeating FC Meppershall 4-3.

Daniel Redbond, Sam Worthington, Danny Fox and Conor Green all finding the back of the net against replies via Craig Damon twice and Matthew Ward.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Henlow, they suffered their fourth loss on the bounce in going down 3-1 at home to Meltis Albion. Pete Saunders put them ahead before strikes from Daniel Wells, Asa Garlick plus a Michael Butler penalty won the day for The Albion.

However on the up are Sandy. For them it was a 4-1 victory at AFC Kempston Town Reserves to extend their current unbeaten ways to ten games. Ian Hammett, Craig Baker, Rod Tapley and Mark Westbrook on the scoresheet against a Town reply from Jamie Felts.

For Blunham Reserves it was a return to winning ways via a 3-1 home victory over Luton Old Boys. Daniel Whitten netting twice and Darren Ashpole once against a lone reply from Ashley Wadhams.

The final game of the day in this division saw local rivals Caldecote Reserves and Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves share the points in a 2-2 draw.

Matt Basta and Terry Lawrence on target for Caldecote against replies from Dave Trundley and Lee Threadgold.

Division Two

DIVISION two leaders Lea Sports PSG were to lose their 100 per cent home record for the season when held in a goalless draw by Bromham United. But to cushion the blow, their lead at the head of the standings is now up to three points following start of play second placers Clifton being beaten 3-2 at Lidlington United Sports. Darren Sims twice plus an own goal on the United scoresheet against a Clifton brace in reply from Tony Norman.

Clifton now losing out on that second spot to Elstow Abbey, they ended Kings AFC run of seven consecutive wins by beating them 3-2 on their own patch. Chris Greene and Lee Morgan shooting the home side 2-0 ahead before Ed L’Erario and Dave McCarthy goals plus a Jason Harrison penalty won the day for the Abbey.

At the other end of the table, bottom club Kempston Hammers Sports are now six points adrift of Stevington after the visitors came up with their first away win of the season with a 4-3 victory. Eddie Haddow and Martin Williams both netting braces against Hammers replies from Sbna Kang (two) and Kevin Simcoe.

Also winning on the road were Great Barford. They were 2-1 winners at Shefford Town & Campton Reserves thanksa to Freddie Windram plus an Adam Dunville penalty which did the damage against a home reply from Carl Thripp.

Alas for Arlesey Social Galacticos, it was the forfeit of three points when they failed to raise a side to travel to face Stopsley Park.

The final game of the day in this section taking Westoning Recreation Club to a 2-1 home win over Marabese Ceramics. Craig Stevens and Tom Smith seeing their goals only replied to by Charanjit Singh.

Division Three

IT was business as usual at the head of Division Three with wins for the leading two sides, league leaders Pavenham maintaining their seasons unbeaten home ways when a hat-trick from Michael Bates plus a brace from James Owen took them to a 5-0 home win over Flitwick Town Reserves.

Sharnbrook Reserves were 5-3 winners away at Cranfield United Reserves. Jayme Harris, Darren Wallinger, James Whitmore, Dan Glos and Kevin Harris all finding the back of the net against United replies from Adam Kerr twice and Richard Stimpson. For the home side it was their first defeat in 11 outings.

Slipping off the promotion pace are M & DH Oakley Sports who were held to a 2-2 home draw by Royal Oak Kempston. Dan Thompson with a brace seeing his goals cancelled out by strikes from Oaks Michael Field and Andrew Palombella.

Creeping even more into the promotion mix are Co-op Sports, they took their unbeaten ways to seven games with a 4-0 home win over Caldecote ‘A’. Rowan Markland (two), Scott Davis and Ashley Jordan netted the goals.

Still in the promotion mix are Sundon Park Rangers despite being held to a 3-3 home draw by Renhold Village. Nick Buttigieg, Sam Chapman and Sanuel Kehinde were the Rangers’ scorers against Village replies from Carl Townsend twice and Simon Wade.

Over at Gold Street the points were also shared in a 1-1 draw between host Riseley Sports and Shefford Town & Campton ‘A’, Paul Brown with the home goal while Chris Fry netted for the visitors.

For Westoning Recreation Club Reserves it was an eighth straight away defeat when beaten 2-1 at Dunton Reserves. Nick Albone and Dave Gibbs on target for the home side against a Rec Boys reply via Samuel Potten.

IT’S as you were at start of play after all of the leading five Division Four clubs came up with wins. For leaders AFC Turvey it was win number 17 on the bounce with a 7-1 away victory at Sandy Reserves.

John Guiney with a hat-trick, Saimir Guri with a brace plus strikes from Tim Clarke and Andrew Wren only being replied to by Darren Gipson.

Whilst second place Goldington emerged 3-1 winners at Stewartby Village, Damien Quigley, Karl Anderson and Robert Brown netting the vital goals against a home reply from John Steele.

In third spot are Thurleigh, they won 5-1 at Kempston Athletic. Steve Pledge netting twice, Sam Queeley once and both Pasquale Ventriglia and Dan Newton from the penalty spot against an Athletic reply from Gary Whitbread.

The defeat sends Athletic to the bottom of the league table following Wootton Village’s first home win of the season 3-0 over Bedford Park Rangers, Ryan Stocker, Adam Flynn and Kyron Layne goals giving the Village their first win in 11 outings.

Still in fourth slot in the league table are Dinamo Flitwick, they won 4-2 at Clifton Reserves to end the home sides unbeaten home run of five games.

Ross Lockey, Scott Hannam, Andy Carlin and Jason Del-Boyer netting for the Dinamo in this their fifth consecutive away win against home replies from George King and Jason Woodhouse.

For fifth place Eastcotts, after three straight defeats it was a return to winning ways 7-0 at Goldington Hammers. Tony Milioti with a hat-trick, Michael Sexton with a brace plus strikes from Ben Eagles and Adam Jacques doing the damage.

With games in hand and still very much in the promotion race are Potton Town. They emerged 5-0 home winners over Lea Sports PSG. Chris Cooper with a brace plus Chris Moore, James Pyman and Tom Pyman the goalscorers.
