King double for Wormley Rovers knocks Ampthill out of Challenge Trophy

After a blank weekend Ampthill Town travelled to Premier League Wormley Rovers for midweek a Challenge Trophy second round tie but made their exit with a 3-2 loss, writes Eric Turner.

The Amps reached the last four in the cup last year and won at Division Two side Bovingdon earlier this term.

They were given a good start by an early goal from Jaiden Brown only for Sam Bajaha to level.

But Town soon replied and Anthony Leslie put them in front at the break.

However, the hosts booked their place in round three when Finnbar King grabbed two goals as they stepped up their game in the second period.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men when they had a man dismissed for a late challenge but Town could not conjure an equaliser and their Challenge Trophy hopes finished for another year.

The Amps return to league action with two important games in four days.

On Saturday they entertain league leaders Irchester United before going to newly promoted AFC Welwyn on Tuesday.
